Doctor of Philosophy in Chinese Medicine

Degree Requirements

1. Students must complete two required courses listed in Table (I) within the study period and choose two elective courses from Table (II) based on their research direction. For students specializing in Basic Traditional Chinese Medicine, elective courses must include advances in basic research of Traditional Chinese Medicine; for students specializing in Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine, elective courses must include advances in clinical research of Traditional Chinese Medicine; and for students specializing in Acupuncture and Moxibustion, elective courses must include advances in acupuncture and moxibustion research, totaling 12 credits. 2. After confirming the coursework, students must write a research proposal and complete a thesis defense to qualify as a doctoral candidate and then formally begin their doctoral dissertation research. 3. Each student must conduct systematic and in-depth scientific research in basic, clinical, or acupuncture-related Traditional Chinese Medicine under the guidance of a supervisor to cultivate independent scientific research abilities and complete a graduation thesis with unique insights and theoretical and practical value. Depending on the research content, students may be sent to collaborative laboratories or hospitals in mainland China, Hong Kong, or other countries and regions for a period of collaborative research or clinical study. 4. During their degree studies, students must publish at least one research paper in an SCI-indexed journal; or, as the first author, at least one research paper in a journal listed in the *Chinese Core Journals Directory* (Note 1) or the *Chinese Science and Technology Journal Citation Report (Core Edition)* (Note 2) to be eligible to apply for their dissertation defense. 5. Academic papers written and published by graduate students should be related to the content of their graduation thesis and must be reviewed and approved by their supervisor before submission. 6. The first affiliation of the academic paper must be the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Macau University of Science and Technology, and the supervisor should be the corresponding author or co-corresponding author. If the first affiliation of the academic paper is not the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, or if the supervisor is not the corresponding author or co-corresponding author, the paper will not be eligible for dissertation defense. 7. The academic papers mentioned in these regulations are full-text papers published in journals. Abstracts and conference papers of any form are not acceptable. 8. Doctoral dissertations must pass review and defense. Note 1: *Comprehensive List of Chinese Core Journals* – Compiled by journal researchers and experts from Peking University Library and over a dozen university libraries in Beijing, and available in university libraries or colleges. Note 2: *Chinese Science and Technology Journal Citation Report* (Core Edition, Expanded Edition) – Edited and published by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC), available in university libraries or colleges.

Learning Time

The duration for taking all courses is 6 months and the duration of dissertation composition is 30 months.

Qualifications of Graduation

Upon approval from the Senate of the University, a Doctoral Degree will be conferred on a student when he or she has: 1.Completed and met the requirements prescribed in the study plan of his or her program within the specific study period, and achieved a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above (excluding dissertation) 2.Abided by the regulations of the University 3.Cleared all fees and charges and returned all University’s property and equipment borrowed Note: All curriculums and study plans are based on the newest announcement of the Boletim Oficial da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau.
